Review of the show:
This might not be the best review, becoz I'm TIRED as hell... I just got back to Miami from Vegas like half an hour ago and I haven't slept in about 30 hrs ...but I was as anxious to get back to tell you all about the show as I'm sure you all were to hear about it... So, I'm gonna write this before I descend into coma.

I got into Vegas at about 6pm Vegas time after a 2 hr delay in Dallas... I can't tell you all how much I was freaking out in Dallas... omg, i was a wreck! ...I was so afraid that I was gonna be late, and I had to get to the box office early because my ticket had gotten lost in the mail when my mom shipped it to me and I had to pick an emergency ticket, so I'm sure I developed a minor ulcer just in trying to get to Vegas.

BUT, alas I got there and was calmed by the fact that I still had a couple hours to show time. There were huge banners in the airport and on taxis and all along the strip. Outside the Aladdin there's a huge TV screen displaying a mini-commercial about the show. I got some great pics... I'll share them when they've been developed.

Anyway ffwd to the show...

My seat was HORRIBLE ...I almost cried when I saw how far away I was... Then, I resolved that I was not going to sit that far away! not on my first Whitney show! So I went prowling for another seat, but security was very tight so I ended up making friends w/ this girl who had an empty seat next to her in the front row of the balcony. Not bad, but not great.

UMM, guess thats all the preshow stuff I can talk about. Bobby opened w/ "My Prerogative"... Oh, let me talk about the make up of this audience! Vegas is the tackiest place on Earth! I was sitting there watching the auditorium fill and I was amazed at

  1. how many rich elderly people were there (a noticeable % of the audience was literally wheeled in... no joke)
  2. how many silver leisure suits and gold beaded handbags i saw, and
  3. that any of these people had any interest at all at Whitney, much less Bobby.
So, needless to say, Bobby's act didn't go over too well at first. He was far from tame! At one point he pulled down his pants and showed half his [private parts] (yes,...he did)! It made for a very uncomfortable moment in the audience. Then, while he was singing "Tender Roni", he placed the microphone on the ground and said that he was imagining that Whitney was lying under him and he got down on the ground and started gyrating ...at which point Whitney came out, (dressed very casually in jeans, a black jacket, and the hair from the GHP album cover) and kinda mock scolded him for being so vulgar. It was cute in a way, i guess. Besides those instances and a few curse words, his act was enjoyable... his moves were pretty tight and his songs brought back a lot of memories.

On to Whitney!!! Her set list was identical to the MLIYL set list, at least from what I saw on the Poland 99 concert video. So I can recall it from memory:

1st set...

She looked SOOOOOOOOO #$%#@$%^@! GOOD!!! She wore her hair much like she did when she debuted the FINE video on BET, except it was much more carefully put together... She wore a yellow dress which reminded me of the dress she wears in the CIHTKF video (probably only because it was yellow and short) but it was accented w/ yellow fur in places, and a yellow fur shawl (or was it a boa?).

This set included, GIB, IITYT (alone... I thought maybe she would duet w/ Bobby), HH, SAMLFY, UYCB, ILFTB, and SBS. She was in excellent voice! Like I said, the crowd was in desperate need of some gingko baloba, so this first set didn't really get the crowd mving.

2nd set...

She was GORGEOUS!!!@#$ ...in a long pink gown, sequened, with that "over one shoulder" cut ...best look of the night! maybe the best look in years!

This set included, IWDS, HWIK ...after these two songs the entire audience was on its feet! Whitney WORKED that damn stage, too! This performance blew the Arista 25 version of IWDWS/HWIK out of the water! She was dancing her butt off and managed to do it w/o looking silly dancing in a gown.

Then "I Love the Lord", and "I Go To The Rock". Then came the movie medley... IBIYAM/WDIHSB/Hurts Like Hell ...I was crying my eyes out from the moment she started "I Love The Lord" and for the rest of the show.

Then came IWALY... I get choked up just thinking about it... just because, you know the show is coming to an end... I just wanted run up on stage at that point.. but I got thru it. I really can't say if it was better or worse than any other IWALY performance, because I was just lost in the moment ...it was great for ME; definitely the performance that will stick out in my mind from now on.

Encore

The encore was the best part of the show. They made a family affair out of "My Love is Your Love"... Whitney (wearing the exact outfit from the FINE video, except the jacket was different... it was leopard print with black fur collar and cuffs) came out and started to sing the song, then she stopped the band and brought out Bobbi Kris and Bobby Brown and his sister Caroline, and some other dancer and they sung it all together... Whitney doing her parts, Bobbi doing her parts, and Bobby doing Wyclef's part. It was just so cute! They really looked like a happy functional family and it was so good to see.

Then little Bobbi Kris and her aunt ran off the stage and Whitney and Bobby did "Something In Common"... I was SO hyped for that one! I don't think they've ever done it live. They were AMAZING!! They stuck to album version of the song and pulled it off magnificently! I screamed like a woman at the part where Whitney goes "all in all, best of love.. we are FRIEEEEENDS" ...honestly, I didn't think she was gonna be able to pull it off with the same power and clarity that she did on the album, but Whitney does not dissappoint! I honestly, think they could walk into a studio and record that song exactly like they did 7 yrs ago.

Ok, thats my review.

Some odds and ends:

  1. Brandy was in the audience
  2. There were some tacky ghetto comments made in the audience, i.e. when she sang "I Go To The Rock" someone said "That's her problem, she need to stay away from that rock" and when she sprayed her throat spray someone yelled "Give me a hit" or somethin ...Luckily these comments came from the peanut gallery way up in the back, so only those of us in the balcony heard them.
  3. Bobby made the comment that he had been clean and sober for 200 and however many days, which was met with the audience's approval.
  4. At the end of SIC, after his line "we'll never have on problems, baby . . ." he said "and if we do, we just get over that 'ish" Then they kissed and kept singing the song as they walked off the stage arm in arm. A fitting end!
