Long wait--GREAT concert!Concert date: 10/27/99 Leipzig, Germany
Review of the show: Whitney started powerful with 3 songs from MYIYL. After that she finally said Hi to the fans. She was very nice and sweet and apologized for letting us wait. The whole concert was filmed and preparations for that caused the delay. After chatting for a while Whitney tried to pronounciate the name of the city -- Leipzig. She tried it several times and it sounded pretty good and funny with her American accent. She also told us she hadn't been to Leipzig before in her whole life. Then Whitney continued her concert with a song 'Saving all my love' which the audience sang along with. She stopped in the middle of the song to complain about the bad echo she was getting at the place she was standing. Then she continued only to ask us later whether we liked to hear a high pitched note at the end or a lower one. Everyone was screaming for the high note, of course. And she hit it. A clean, very high note. Without any problems. After that Whitney called Bobby Brown on stage, who sang a very cool song. Whitney, Bobby and Whitney's dancers jumped around on stage and seemed to have a great time. The audience also had a great time and was cheering and dancing. Towards the end of the song Whitney and Bobby danced together and when it was over they stood together and Bobby hugged Whitney. After a couple more songs (sorry, guys, I didn't keep the set list in mind) Whitney went of stage to change while Garry was singing 'If I could change the world'. He was done, but no Whitney showed. So the band played some song beginnings such as IYBT and QOTN together with the backup singers. It looked like something was wrong, but then Whitney appeared on stage again. She was wearing a skirt that went down to her knees and a jacket. The skirt didn't look as great as the suit, but it was still nice. Not as beautiful as other outfits, though. Now Whitney was talking again. She recognized some fans in the audience who have been at all her shows. Also Whitney told them and us that she loved everyone. As everyone of us knows, Whitney is very religious and took us down 'Memory lane', as she called it, singing 'Jesus loves me' accompanied by the cheers of the fans. This song started a whole set of gospel songs, mainly from 'Thepreacher's wife' OS. In this set it became clear that Whitney's voice was in great shape. She hit all the high notes and gave an awesome performance. I saw Whitney in Frankfurt during her 'The Bodyguard' tour and she got much better. I mean, she was great then, but her voice got even more soul. After the gospel part, Whitney sat down on a white chair in the middle of the stage and asked us whether it was okay if she sang some love songs. Of course, we all loved the idea of listening to her brilliant ballads. At the end of this set came what everyone had been waiting for: I will always love you!!! My favorite song of the whole concert. It just sent shivers down my spine as it has always done. Great song, great voice! It's good to have our Whitney back. Unfortunately everything great has to come to an end sometime. Whitney again told us that she loved us and then left blowing kisses and giving us the peace sign left the stage. Of course, no-one could let her go like that and we got an encore. After a couple of minutes cheering and screaming, Everyone came back on stage and Whitney gave a great performance of 'INRBIO'. She had changed into pants again. Unfortunately INRBIO was the last song of a very great show. There were no duets and no special guests except Bobby Brown, but I just loved it. Whitney was not diva like or arrogant but very nice and very sweet. She showed a great warmth and really gave a memorable performance. In a nutshell: It was definitely worth the wait. Thanks Whitney!!!
