She's back to her best! Wenbley saw it!Concert date: 9/15/99 Wembley, UK
Review of the show: Anyway, having managed to buy tickets before the concert had been advertised thanks to the Whitney Mailing List (Thanks Rachel) we were in the centre and only 12 rows from the front! However there were a lot of corporate big wigs about but even they were soon bopping! The support was a rather Alanis Morrisettey, Amanda Marshall, nice voice but a little to rocky for me. Then at 9 p.m. sharp Miss Houston appeared in a wonderful long green fake fur coat over some great tight tops and leopard skins. The stage was not as fantastic as the previous tour but the lighting was very effective with a stars backdrop and white audience spots! She started with "Get it Back" and then straight into "Heartbreak Hotel". After this she addressed us and what a welcome she received! I think Whitney enjoyed the atmosphere of the arena. She spoke about being away for 8 years and doing things that everyone does such as getting married and having a child! She was glad to be back and enjoyed making the new studio album. She then took as back with, in my opinion, an all too short blast from the past with a medley of Saving All My Love, How Will I know etc... Unlike the last concert when Take 6 joined her on stage, no one came on this time which was a shame. Maybe I was hoping for a visit from Miss Carey? We did however she a rather enthusiastic Bobby Brown in a lush cream suit cutting a rug! in the sides, Whitney constantly sang to him and gave him the biggest hug ever when she finally exited stage left! I was eager to see the great band of old back on the tour and was slightly disappointed to see that Whitney had a all new band, although excellent there was no Kirk Whalum, no sax at all! Whitney had even changed Musical Directors. The backing singers had not changed though and Gary entertained with a great number, "If I could Change" whilst Miss H had the second of her three costume changes. This time she returned with a fantastic light blue sequinned dress, GORGEOUS!!!! She did a fantastic gospel set, played the "I wanna dance" and the "my love". She then addressed us once more and then sang the heart-warming "When you believe" She finished this part with the band introductions (and note that Bobby's sister is now one of her dancers) and then we had the song! All she had to say was "If I" and Wembley exploded! The voice was first class, hit the highs and even made some lows which I have never seen her do before. She was AWESOME. I have never heard a voice like it and it chills you everytime she opens that mouth. She looked gorgeous and sang like an angel. A great night. Whitney left the stage left one hour forty five but I was no happy to let her go! I was pleased to say I started the chant of "MORE"! and more we got. This time a great little short leapod skins skirt and a red feather boofer. She sang "It aint Right" and that was splendid. The concert seem to end sooner rather I wanted, but maybe I wanted it to go on forever? The thing I truly love about Whitney's concerts is the arrangements. she can sing and she looks fantastic but the arrangements is what make her a truly great live artist. She may have only sang 9 full songs but the arrangements were superb. Well lets hope we do not have to wait so long for her return if I could be a little quicker off the mark maybe I could get closer seats? Well Whitney, "until you Come Back" "I will Always Love You" :-) Craig Duncan
