I was disappointed too but, it happens

Posted by Tiffany on August 23, 1999:

Concert date: Meet And Greet, LA, CA, USA

Review of the show:
After reading a few of the messages from the San Francisco show, I feel that maybe I can clear up a few things. I too was one of the Platinum Club members who was on the California Jammin travel package, so naturally it came as a big shock to us that she cancelled.

Those of us on the package were the first ones to know the show was cancelled thanks to the Platinum Club employees. One of our hosts on the trip was the owner of Fan Asylum, Tim McQuaid, who it was nice to meet. After we left the Concord Pavillion, he paid for the package members to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe in San Francisco out of his own pocket, not Whitneys obviously and this was very nice of him to do.

Some people seem to think that the Platinum Club had a say in whether she cancelled and I can assure you that this is not true. I had the opportunity to talk to Tim while we waited for a table, and he said that he talks to Whitneys management and they give him all the details. He said that on the day of the show her management called around noon and said she hadn't felt well and they weren't too sure there was going to be a concert. Tim told them to let him know as soon as possible if the concert was off because he was didn't want to send us if the concert was going to be cancelled. Then he got another phone call around three saying that everything was okay and that the concert was a go. Then of course, he told me he was backstage and they were doing sound checks going on 7 and aroung that time he got the call saying that Whitney was sick and the show was off.

What her management told Tim was that they and Whitney were boarding, she got on the plane and she had to get off she didn't feel good enough to even fly. We were all so happy going to the venue and then we waited and waited for Tim, which should have been a signal right off the bat that something wasn't right. He was probabably on the phone withy Whitney's management.

I just don't want anyone to think that it was in any way the Platinum Club's fault that she cancelled.

Nobody has ever blamed the Platinum Club for WH's cancellation.

After all, the first time I had tickets to see Whitney, when I was 12 in St. Louis for the I'm Your Baby Tonight Tour she cancelled the show. Then on the first night of the LA dates, this tour, I sat in the front row, all thanks to the Platinum Club! My first Whitney concert (I have been a fan for 12 years) and finally at age 20, I saw her up close.

The second night I sat third row center and Magic Johnson sat right in front of me. Both LA concerts were great and a couple from England told me they had seen her 9 times before and they had never seen her sing so good. The first night she did the Shoop, Shoop thing with Monica, and Babyface and his wife, Tracey Edmonds were there as was Clive Davis, and David Foster.

I even think Missy Elliot was supposed to be there because at one point Whitney looked out into the audience and asked Clive if Missy was here yet and if her plane got in. She didn't show but that was okay because Whitney really sounded great. The next night she was just as good and I think the crowd was even more pumped than the night before.

We danced to I Wanna Dance With Somebody Who Loves Me and How Will I know plus both nights she did a medeley of You Give good Love and Saving All My Love. She really brought down the house with I Love the Lord and I Will Always Love You.

To add to the excitement the second night, Quincy Jones was there, as was Magic, Clive, Diane Warren, Shanice, Jennifer Lopez, the woman who plays DL Hugeley's wife in his show, Johnny Gill and who knows who else.

Tim told me later that Micheal Jordan was supposed to show up and Denzel too, even though I never saw them. She rocked and you know what- these poeple wouldn't show up for just anyone's concert.

I think that this says a lot about how good Whitney really is. I was diappointed but I will always like Whitney the best!
