Shameful

Posted by Jeff on August 02, 1999:

Review of the show:
The way that this was handled was absolutely shameful. There was no apology, no explaination other than an "illness" that apparently set in between soundcheck and showtime, and no attempt made to reschedule the tickets. Honestly, I feel that the cause of the cancellation was more likely due to the poor ticket sales in the expensive seats than due to illness. Whoever came up with the rediculous pricing scheme for this venue is a moron, of course the $27 lawn tickets will sell better than the $$50-127 ticketes in the reserved seating! Whoever assigned the seat prices must have realized that the majority of the audience would be back on the grass leaving a ton of expensive empty seats down front. The lawn seats were a great opportunity for families to take their children (who are the demographic that spends the most $ on records and merchendise.) I just wish the whole affair was conducted with a little more honesty, which her fans deserve. Alienating the fan base that actually cares about her music enough to buy tickets will leave Whitney without any devoted fanbase. It is sad to be reminded that for Ms Houston entertaining is all about the rewards to the bank account and to the ego, and not about spreading joy and happiness by giving back to the people that gave her her fame and fortune in the first place.
