I will always love her

Posted by Sharon G. on July 30, 1999:

Concert date: 7/29/99 L.A., CA

Review of the show:
Intro-

Arrived got our seats 5th row. Down from us was Clive Davis, Babyface and David Foster. So I went down and got to meet them. Mr. Davis signed my cd "MLIYL". But when Babyface was going to sign security made us leave. Monica was also in attendance and gave Babyface and Clive a big hug. Also Angela Basssett was there.

112

Okay?? Well They were good I liked there new single and the solo performances. "Q" I think this his stage name was the best in his solo performance. I think they needed to space out the dance number they seemed to be bumping into each other a lot. One of them held a note longer than Whitney has ever held. It was incredible. Then brief intermission.

Opening Get It Back

The dancers came out then Whitney appreared at the top of the stairs on the Left side of the stage which is the side we were closest to. She was wearing an ugly (sorry) Orange and red long jacket black turtle neck cool sequin belt and blue and flower pants with bright orange shoes also had sequins on them. Didn't care for the outfit at all. The song was great although LA took awhile warming up to Whitney not many on their feet. A guy behind me tapped me on the shoulder and told me to sit down. I couldn't believe it. I was there to rock with whitney and have a good time. So eventually I blew it off and danced. The song was very hot and the dancers were great. Even Whitney got in the act dancing on this tour. She is improving I must say. Very cool. Her voice sounded different not horse but just different I guess I have listened to my cds too much and of course she is going to sound differently in concert. Of course she was not ill either. THANK YOU. I was worried.

Heartbreak Hotel

I liked the way she did this since she didn't have the others to sing with her. Very well done at least no video screen like I have seen in concerts of other performers which is tacky. Ending was a capella and very powerful.

If I Told You That

She sang this similar to the album. Dancing good.

You Give Good Love

Whitney made comments on how long it has been since she saw LA too long. Sang You Give Good Love to us "LA you give me good love" Very cool!! Asked if we all had the cd too. Someone had a cell phone on in the front row and whitney said "You are on the phone?" The lady said my children are listening. They couldn't be here. "Whitney sang into the phone a hello to them very cool !!!!

Saving All My Love For You

LOVED THIS RENDITION. A Cappella and very fresh. Did great on the notes here. I was worried she wouldn't be able to do it. But no fear now.

Her Breaks

She went to wipe her face and to redo her makeup a couple of times. We were all cheering at her when we saw that. It was funny to see her doing her makeup. Also she said she has been acting crazy and got a little silly it was cute.

Until You Come Back

Good song. Better live!!! Similar to her AMA performance. Added Bobby into this until you come back home. Loved it.

Oh Yes.

Asked for her mike stand (I might have these two songs switched from correct order) made jokes about her and Bobby and what they REALLY do !!! She said believe or not we don't fight all the time and I don't hit him!!! We are a strong family. Then she went into the song. This was the Best I loved this song. I don't like it on the cd. But here it was amazing. She stopped in the middle of the words and it was silent. This was so awesome. She also added bobby into this song too.

Exhale - Shoop Shoop

After redoing her makeup again. She went in to Shoop and asked for our participation. Similar opening like Classic Whitney of course no orchestra and not as long. She did the far right section to help. She was very disappointed in there shoops. Middle better. But our section the best. She was rockin' to us and everything. She then called Monica up and she sang with Whitney they had a contest to see who could sing the highest very cool. They announced they were working together but Whitney said "That's all I'm gonna say about it" Also they sat on the stage near where we were sitting. They gave each other big hugs and got into the record label being the same (might be competition but friendly)

I Learned From the Best

Just like other performances Oprah BUT she couldn't get that last note. She tried twice but it just wasn't working for her tonight. It's okay. She can't be expected to be perfect every TIME!!!

Change The World -Gary Houston

Similar to all the others I have heard him sing. People were getting up and going for a break. Big mistake because Whitney Was back in a flash to sing.

I'm Every Woman

She changed into THE DRESS. I love this dress it is a hand painted floral design and satin looking. She had a green stole over her shoulders and bright green shoes with red heels. Cool shoes. Don't particulary like the color though. But The song. Got everyone to her feet. She didn't sing the high notes as usual in this song she let the background music fill it in and she sang lower over it. She sang all the other parts great the beginning etc.. It was just that ending part. Dancing great whitney even got into it. She can move now!!!!

I Wanna Dance W/Somebody

We saw Bobby Kris on the side of the stage and Bobby came out briefly during this set. This was the same remix version as Paris 1998. But she sang the lyrics fully and danced. Very great remix version I liked this version the best.

How Will I Know

Very similar to the old version from the 80's but new twists and very good. Everyone was dancing . Including the person behind me thank god!!!

In My Business.

I didn't expect this song. And Whitney got into it for sure showing her ring to everyone and told people to "GET A JOB" with not music. It was great. Great rendition. She told Clive Davis that Missy Elliot told her to put the song back in. I loved this song too. To tell people to mind there own business. She was looking for Missy in the audience she wasn't there and she asked the lady who had the cell phone that she needed to use it. Joking of course.

I Love The Lord.

I love the backdrop blue lights and small lights on the back wall all blue. She sang this to PERFECTION. I loved it. She got into it better than I have ever heard before!!!!

I Go To The Rock

Very upbeat although she introduced the band here and got silly with people in the audience. She was singing to a little girl in the front row and people around here were shouting at Whitney she got annoyed and said I am trying to sing to the babies. She went on with the guys yelling at her to stop it and she would deal with them later. She wanted to finish with the band and that she was running behind in time. She got a new band and she avoided the right side of the stage where those guys were she came over to us instead. Shaking her head at them walking away. Someone on our side said WHITNEY and she said what in the middle of her sentence she said that's all you have to say to me oh boy and finished her statement about her new band. Only Michael Baker and Carolyn Brown, the one she calls her "chocolate baby" and Bobby's oldest daughter seemed to be the same. She said they went on to do bigger and better things.

My Love Is Your Love

I loved this!!!!! Bobby Kris got into the groove with mom and Bobby came out and got going with Bobby Kris she sang a little rap song it was the best!!! Then whitney sang the album version of MLIYL and the remix version that I loved it was the best. Bobby Carried Bobby Kris while Whitney was prepping for the next song. He asked up to get up and he said "GET UP" in a strong tone. Then he said I am really a gentle man. Laughed. Bobby Kris wanted down and she ran back to mom. Bobby asked how we were . Then he left with Bobby Kris whitney said we gotta go got curfew to meet.

Movie Medley

I Believe In You And Me

She sat in her chair. Introduced Clive Davis BabyFace and his wife and David Foster. We all stood up and clapped. She talked about who they were and Face with shoop and her saying you ran out of words I mean the man comes up with a whole album. Then she said "Face told me to just sing the song Whitney" so she said okay.

She went into Kevin Costner calling her to do a movie, Forrest Whitaker calling her and then Denzel Washington she sang I Believe in You And Me. Dedicated to Clive for giving her the song and I loved this live I have never heard it live before and it was great all the notes perfect!!!!! Even the high notes.

Why Does It Hurt So Bad

Similar to MTV movie awards not as sweaty though. I have to say she wasn't sweating that bad her dancers were worse than she was!! She really got into this song leaning back etc… Very good high notes and all!!! The best.

Hurts Like Hell

I must say I must be out of it because I haven't heard this song before but this was THE BEST performance I have heard I loved this song. She sang it with such emotion and force she really got into. It was like her gospel number. She was into it. Loved it.

I Will Always Love You

She dedicated to David Foster. She was sitting for the song up until the last part when she stood up and threw her towel down it was breathtaking!!!!! The version was the best SO MUCH BETTER THAN DIVAS LIVE. She blew that one out of the water. I Will Always love Whitney for this show.

She didn't miss a note here either. It was incredible.

Whitney said her goodnights to us threw us her kisses. And took the longest bow I have ever seen she wasn't going to get up as long as we were all cheering. It lasted for a few minutes. I was amazed. Then she left the stage while the band finished the song out. I noticed a big towel get wrapped around her as she left the staircase.

We all anxiously waited for the encore although some people left. WHY??? I will never know this is Whitney there is only one.

As the stage stayed black I saw all the dancers come out again. Everyone was cheering she came out and did

It's Not Right But It's Okay

I loved this version (even though it has been played overseas a lot I still didn't get to experience it live) where they do the stops in the beginning (Like the Brits performance) and she freezes it was great. Dancing was great. She was into this song. Dancing and everything. Like on her IYBT tour dancing with her dancers it was great. She even danced up the stairs to leave after giving us more kisses.

The dancers were wearing all black with sequined belts and Whitney changed the green to pink which looked great with this dress she should have wore the pink for the last half of the show and used the bright green at the end.

Overall

She did a tremendous, spectacular, emotional, will never forget performance. Now I have not seen her live that often (4 live concerts and many single performances). But I have to say she still can deliver a great show even though her voice has changed. What do you expect she is getting older and has been singing for a long time. She can't and will not be that same. But then that is what makes it new and different too. I will always love her no matter what. I can accept her missed notes and not so perfect performances. No one is perfect. But overall the show was the best!!!!!
