An Amazing Vocal Event...Start to Finish!

Posted by Phil on July 30, 1999:

Concert date: 7/29/99 Los Angeles, CA

Review of the show:
Whitney was truly amazing last night on her opening night in Los Angeles. The crowd was revved and ready for her to take the stage and take the stage she did! She kicked off the night on a high and only went higher. The crowd was going crazy during Heartbreak Hotel and she was obviously feeling the love from the audience. Before she launched into a trip down memory lane (You Give Good Love, Saving All My Love for You...), Miss Whitney touched up her make-up and the crowd went wild. Exhale was really fun and she really enjoyed working it with the crowd and all the "shoopers". Monica joined her on stage during "Exhale" and Whitney noted that they had just signed to do a Disney movie but weren't giving any details yet.

Whitney's second set opened with I'm Every Woman, I Wanna Dance With Somebody(Who Loves ME)(REMIX...totally kicked it), and How Will I Know. The crowd was on their feet and dancing in the aisles. I Love the Lord was spine tingling. Bobbi Kris came out for My Love is Your Love and was way too cute for words. You can tell that she really loves her mommy. A tour of some of her soundtrack hits brings us to the highlight of the night...I Will Always Love You. What can I say? I was completely mesmorized. She hit every note with conviction and didn't make one false step. The crowd was going overboard! She came back and encored with It's Not Right, But It's OK.

It's been 8 years since I've last been to a Whitney concert (I'm Your Baby Tonight Tour). Why I waited so long, I don't know, but the wait was worth it. Whitney is a true vocalist. She is the Barbra Streisand of her day and NO ONE (let that read Celine, Mariah, and all the other pretenders) know that there is only one true diva playing over the airwaves, and her name is Whitney Houston. We need to make Whitney's new single, My Love is Your Love, go all the way to the top of the charts.

Peace and love y'all.
