Rocky Mountain High!

Posted by jeff on July 28, 1999:

Concert date: 7/26/99 Denver, CO

Review of the show:
She made it! As some other fans may have been, I was a little concerned that Whitney might not make it to Denver because of the long tour and her recent throat problems. However, she did not disappoint.

This was a Whitney like I had never seen before. She was loose, funny, playful and truly enjoyed herself on the stage. The set was "the norm", with the exception of a heartfelt tribute. Whitney performed a special song in memory of all the children lost in the Columbine shooting and for JFK Jr. I thought it was nice that she took the time.

What song was that? We want details! Details! DETAILS!

A few of us were up and dancing right away, but the rest of the crowd was a little stiff and un-endearing at first. When Whitney came back out for the second set performing some "oldies but goodies", they went wild! Considering that she was having obvious throat problems, (which the breeze didn't help) and was trying to adjust to the altitude, she kept a great attitude and sang her Dolce & Gabana butt off! At one point, she asked "How do you all breath up in here?" and proceeded to lay down on the stage kicking her legs up in the air while still singing. She is a true performer. She sang the 80's pop standards, the new hip dance stuff, gospel, and sweeping ballads like only she can sing. It was clear at the end of the show that the altitude was getting to her and her dancers, but Whitney still finished out with the powerhouse IWALY. She got to the top of her diva staircase and Bobby wrapped her up in a towel and carried her off stage. It seemed as if she had just begun! She is one of a kind. Whitney provided a true Rocky Mountain High. Here's hoping she gets well soon.
