Whats With Whitney
Concert date: 7/14/99 New York, NY
Review of the show:
First, my review of the concert. The show at Mad. Sq. Garden Threater was GREAT. I mean, Whitney was ON!! I have sen Whitney in concert several times (From the Moment of Truth tour, through the Im Your Baby Tonight up to the post-Bodyguard tour) and she has never acted younger or funkier on-stage, while sounding better live. Anyone who has never heard he live before has not truly heard the awesome power and range of this woman's voice. Hopefully the fans got to see her All Access special on Mtv. I was actually in it. John Norris interviewed me before the show. All that got on the air was "I wanna see the new stuff, Heartbreak Hotel," and they went to her belting it out. I thought the show was actually pretty good.
Now the real reason Im writng this piece.
My feeling was there was no need for me to write a review of the show because there would be enough praise for her here on the site. However, I could not contain my silence after reading the reviews of her St. Louis and Memphis shows.
I will be the first to admit...I am a WHITNEY ADDICT. I LOVE the lady and have for years. But, what the hell is wrong with her lately??
I have in the past always defended her decision to marry Bobby, obviously they are in love. However, it is plain to see she has NOT been the same person since she married him. One has to ask themselves, will he ruin her career they way he did his? I hope not. BUT, she has not had a number 1 single since, Shoop Shoop almost 4 years ago!! The last album was one of the best of her career but the worst selling one. Even Mariahs #1's sold better. When I talk to people they have such negative things to say about her.
I also hate to admit it but I do think she does drugs. NOW the reason I say this is if anyone watched the Mtv special with her at the beginning, it seemed clear she was a little wound up on something. And the way she is always sweating, and NOT just on stage.
When she was on Rosie a while back, promoting Cinderella on video she kept wiping with a sweat rag. I have all of her television appearance on tape, and she NEVER used to be that way on TV. Not even when she was singing on the AMA's or the Grammy's she NEVER sweated like that!! Sweating profusely is a sure sign of drug-abuse.
Also the way she up and cancels shows is shameful. I mean these are her fans, the ones who made her. And not to reschedule them is tacky! I cant help but fear her career will go further down if she doesnt change her attitude. I love Whitney more than any other performer, but it just seems like she doesnt really care if she dissapoints people or not.
Does anyone else feel this way???
