The Best Whitney Concert Ever
|
Which Concert: July 11 Aschaffenburg Posted by Carlos C. on July 20, 1998: Now, this has got to be the best Whitney Houston concert ever!! I did not expect to be in the front row, and center stage, but to see Whitney this close was truly a dream come true. Whitney was elevated to the center of the stage with Bobbi Kris in her arms, while singing "I'm Every Woman". She danced around and looked fabulous in this beautiful fitting red outfit. We the fans, that occupied the first row (we were there from 10:00am in the morning), were all mesmerized by Whitney. She went into a energetic version of So Emotional that got the crowd all reved up and excited. She brought it down a little by singing "All The Man That I Need". This is not one of my favorite Whitney songs, but she sang this song with such conviction, that I really have to say that her LIVE version gives it so much justice removing the repitious flowing lyrics of the studio version! I think she then sang "I Wanna Dance With Somebody", again, this version was spiced up to give it a modern groove that would have anyones toe tapping! She talked to us for a bit telling us the reason for the Benefit concert was for the children, and that we were helping the homeless and parentless children of the world by attending this concert. She then went into her revised "Love Medley" which included the songs, Didn't We Almost Have It All/Where Do Broken Hearts Go/Say You Love Me/Nobody Loves Me Like You Do. She then went into "Queen of the Night" before giving up the stage to her brother Gary for his rendition of the Grammy winning Eric Clapton tune called "Change The World". Whitney returned in one of her signature jumper outfits (Purple) singing a great remake of the Diana Ross song "I'm Coming Out". I loved the way she did this song!! It was followed by Ain't No Moutain High Enough and The Boss. Whitney closed this tribute singing a duet "Endless Love" with her brother Gary. Then, something happened! The power went off, no microphone! Whitney was pacing the stage yelling to the crowd that she's not leaving, she's not going anywhere! Its like she wasn't finished yet! We the fans in the front row took this opportunity to sing to Whitney. One group of fans started singing the Greatest Love Of All, in which Whitney joined in. We then started singing shoop shoop, and then a group of us started to sing the Trevor remake of I Beleive In Whitney. She listened and blushed! She even spoke directly to me! (she asked me to tell everyone that it will be 10 minutes, could I do that) I promptly replied with a loud YES, and turned around to relay her message! She also loved the banners and the stuffed Heart that Klaus had brought for her! Finally, the power returned, and Whitney started singing the Joe Crocker classic "You Are So Beautiful"...She changed the words a bit and directed this song to us the fans! You could feel the love that was pouring out of her heart while she was singing this song!...Whitney had started crying during the Diana Ross set? She told us something about she was thinking of quitting this?? None of us knew what she meant, but Gary and also some of the back-up singers were in tears? Remember, this was the last show of her European Tour, so in many ways it was good bye to her crew, and also Bobby was not present at this show (but he was at the Paris show!) Instead Cissy was in the wings, and at one point during ANMHE, Whitney changed the words to say to Bobbi Kris, that mommy will always be there and when she's not, you can go to grandma!! This is when I started thinking that something's up! I would have expected Whitney to say you (Bobbi Kris) can go to Daddy?(hmmm). The next song was "I Believe in you and me" She sang this so beautifully and the emotions were high! She then went into an amazing version of "I Love The Lord"...awesome, she had chills running up and down my spine during this song....again she changed the words by adlibbing about the Lord will fix it, he turned the power on! This was followed by "I Go To The Rock", during this number she introduced her band. For the final song, she sang "I Will Always Love You", she cried and talked during most of this song, and by this time emotions were very high....she did this song like I've never heard it before..truly amazing!! She returned for an encore singing Step By Step (she wore jeans and Nike sneakers!) You had to be there!!
