DIVA'S LIVE - for the most part...

Posted by Phil on April 14, 1999:

IWALY:
When Whitney sang her first song, It's Not Right..., she sounded a little hoarse, so I was leary of IWALY. Much to my relief, she really gave a great performance and hit every note with much passion. The best performance of this song that I've seen to date.

It's Not right but It's OK:
She tore it up! She really was into it and had the whole auditorium with her from start to finish of this song. She looked like she was having a great time on this one.

Ain't No Way:
I thought this was done very well. It could have been a little shorter though.

My Love Is Your Love:
This again was done very well. The addition of Bobbi Kris was great. She looked very cute up there holding on to her mike. The only problem with this song was her wardrobe! Who put her in that anyway? It made her look flabby around the middle...let's not make a "Mariah" mistake!

I'm Every Woman:
Great performance, but again what was with the fur housecoat? Who is responsible for these? Let's hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Overall impressions on 'Divas Live' Show:
The concert as a whole was well done. However, I thought there were too many "Divas". We could have done without alot of what seemed to be filler. Tina Turner tore the place up! We could have had another number from her. What was with the Elton John Hour? First, he is not a DIVA! And he seemed to be on longer than anyone. Cher only did 2 songs and only one of those was actually live. We could have had two more songs from her. Was it just me, or was Brandy doing her best Whitney posturing during "Have You Ever" or what? She stole every one of Whitney's moves and nuances during her performance. We didn't need Faith Hill, though she was good, or LeAnn Rimes. All Chaka Khan did was scream. When did she sing? Also, a final general question, during the finale, where were Tina, Cher, and Elton John? Has anyone heard what happened to them?
