It was decent. Nothing to shout abt actually. It's sad that we actually rave these days when she merely sings a song the way she recorded it. Nothing compared to the old Whitney.
It's Not right but It's OK:
There used to be a time when she improvised, not because of any limitations in her voice, but as a sign of her truly remarkable artistry as a live performer. Nowadays she improvises just to get thru her songs without belting out the high notes. This was a good example.
Ain't No Way:
I actually sensed something in Whitney that I never have before - fear. She actually sounded afraid of singing some parts of the song and she was completely overdshadowed by Mary J. Actually, the fear was present even on INRBIO. Mary sounded soulful and into it. Whitney just sounded hoarse in comparison.
My Love Is Your Love:
Average. Her performance of the song on David Letterman the best so far. That performance reminded me of the old-school Whitney. performance on AMAs passable.
I'm Every Woman:
Average. She really doesn't sing this song well live. All the versions that I've heard have her struggling thru it. And the bridge is always taped. She can't belt it out live.
Overall impressions on 'Divas Live' Show:
Rather disappointing. There are a gazillion performances by her in the early 80s which are way superior to what she puts out now. I think we just have to face up to the reality. She's never gonna sing like she used to. I dunno what she's doing to her voice, but it's just not there. Perhaps she shld take some notes from Celine who has this strict vocal regime and still trains with a vocal coach.
