IWALY:
Bottom line--Queen Whitney roared and soared like never before. It was amazing watching and hearing this DIVA sing from her soul and her heart. The audience was blown away and so was I. She looked awesome and just had brilliant "diva-look" moments. Now how many ovations did she received?!
It's Not right but It's OK:
Whitney proves she can move. Again, she even sings this song about a bad lover with passion and heart. Whoever this CJ is who said her attire was poor is obviously no fashion expert. The Diva attire was awesome. Every outfit was sexy and absolutely beautiful. She hit those high notes with ease.
Ain't No Way:
What can you say about this duo? Mary J. Blige usually does not sound all that good live, but she was on top of her game last night. Her voice was able to hang with Whitney tick for tack. Blige outfit was horrendous, but thank God her voice was not. The two received a much deserved ovation, and the chemistry between the two was real and honest.
My Love Is Your Love:
Cool song that has grown on me. Lets just hope Arista has enough sense to release this as the next single, so we can jam all thru the summer--oh yeah--with an awesome video--can someone please get that McFarlane guy. The rap was good, and Naughty's homage to Whitney with the wiping and bowing was perfect. Again, her voice is like no other--crisp and powerful. Now I am saying Mariah who?
I'm Every Woman:
Funky and powerful. Chaka did a little too much hollering and yelling, while Whitney let the words just roll out of her mouth. Chaka's no Aretha; this was still Whitney's I'm Every Woman. Oh yeah--where was Cher and Tina? I guess after Whitney--they were like "hell no--I'm not following Whitney." I can't wait to see the "pop-ups" for this show.
Overall impressions on 'Divas Live' Show:
Overall, the concert was much better than last year. The special guests were stronger, and the concert seemed to have a more "party" feel. The audience made this concert. I mean they supported each Diva with great excitement and honor. Brandy did the best she could, but the girl just doesn't sound good live--but her album is the BOMB. All props to the great survivor, Tina Turner--not the strongest voice, but boy can she rock an audience. Her best moment was her entrance from the limo. Cher lip-synched "Believe" hmmm enough said. The night belonged to one DIVA--Whitney Houston. She proved to the world why she is the "Queen of Pop." I mean lets face the fact, Mariah may have more #1's and have sold more albums this decade, but PLEASE--her 7-range Octave is a distant 2nd to Whitney's soulful and passionate 5-range Octave. Mariah doesn't have the presents to move an audience like Whitney. Whitney's voice is just plain powerful and her vocal ability is natural--not slicked up "studio" produced. When Whitney blows like she did on IWALY, there is no one who can compete--well maybe Patti Labelle or Jennifer Holliday, but last night, there was only one true DIVA and one powerful QUEEN--her name was Mrs. Whitney Houston Brown. All hail the QUEEN!
