Whitney Houston Breaks All Records To Claim Biggest Selling Album And Single Ever hide

Whitney Houston breaks all records previously set to date, claiming the distinction of the biggest sales of an album and single in the industry, according to SoundScan. "'The Bodyguard' Original Soundtrack Album" sold a phenomenal 830,000 units in one week, breaking the record previously held by Guns 'n Roses "Use Your Illusion II" at 700,000 units sold in one week. "The Bodyguard" sales are almost three times the amount of this week's No. 2 record; Eric Clapton's "Unplugged" which logs in at 280,000 units. The single broke the record with sales of 577,000 units sold in one week, topping its previous record of 399,000 units in one week.
Houston has not let up her hold of the airplay charts, topping five charts. "The Bodyguard" soundtrack holds title to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Pop Album Chart and R&B Album Chart. "I Will Always Love You" remains No. 1 on Billboard's Pop, R&B and A/C charts.
"'The Bodyguard' Original Soundtrack Album" has sold over 5 million copies (within six weeks of release). "I Will Always Love You" has surpassed sales of 3.5 million (within eight weeks of release).
With competition in the stores extremely intense at Christmas time, Whitney Houston turns up as first choice for the public, retailers, and radio on every front.
