Mr. Showbiz
Story:
Reverend Henry Biggs (Courtney Vance), an overworked Newark minister who
doesn't have time for his beautiful wife (Whitney Houston), prays for help
from above to get him through. What he gets is a hunky angel (Denzel
Washington) who descends from Heaven to show the good Reverend the error
of his ways.
Players:
Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington are two of the most powerful
players in Hollywood, and director Penny Marshall, with the exception of
1994's Renaissance Man, has had a string of box-office hits.
The talented Courtney Vance, who plays the Reverend Biggs, may have
finally found his breakout role.
Mr. Showbiz Prediction:
It will be tough to miss with this one. The 1947 original with Cary Grant
was a charmer--and Denzel seems to be the perfect guy to step into
his shoes. And, since Whitney's last two films have both been
blockbusters, The Preacher's Wife should have studio execs
dreaming of full stockings this year.
