Disney giving royal treatment to 'Princess Diaries' sequel submitted by: Lisa D. source: The Hollywood Reporter Date: August 15, 2001 HOLLYWOOD -- What does a girl do for a second act after she goes from geeky bohemian teen to beautiful young princess? The Walt Disney Co. hopes to find out. It's putting a sequel to its hit family comedy "The Princess Diaries" into the works, with "Princess" scribe Gina Wendkos working on the new script. Disney production president Nina Jacobson said a sequel was being discussed even before the current film's impressive $23 million opening this month. The studio has an option on Anne Hathaway to reprise her role as the teen princess. As for the rest of the cast and director Garry Marshall, "It would be my dream" to come up with a strong project to reunite the entire "Princess" team, Jacobson said.
