Whitney Houston's second movie, "Waiting To Exhale," was released in December 1995. The critically acclaimed film, in which she starred with Angela Bassett, went on to gross about $70 million at the box office, earning far more than the film's original budget and laying the groundwork for a multitude of all-Black ensemble films that followed. Whitney co-produced the soundtrack and recorded three new tracks. It quickly became a #1 album and has sold about 10 million copies worldwide to date. The movie, directed by Forest Whitaker, was based on the best-selling novel by Terry McMillan.
