Impossible Things Are Happening Everyday!!

Posted by Devin McCoy on November 11, 1997 at 08:42:39:

From beginnig to end, Cinderella was magnificent! The colors were vibrant and the people beautiful, reminiscent of the old Technicolor movie musicals of the 1940's and 50's. I believe Brandy was a great Cinderella and I really enjoyed her singing. I've read much about Brandy not receiving her accolades for her part, and I just want to say she did the best she could...Cinderella is not some big dramatic role that requires too much acting, it's a fairy tale. I've also read many fans (or non-fans) believe Whitney's presence in the movie overshadowed Brandy....and she did. But she's Whitney Houston and in all fairness, I believe that in certain parts of the movie she was Whitney Houston in all her Glory and not the Fairy Godmother. And her fans are proud to see her do well, not to mention sing well...she hasn't been delivering the goods lately (ie "Classic Whitney and other live performances). It was good to see that she still has the magic and the Golden Pipes. I really liked Bernadette Peter's role as the Wicked Stepmother and I think she's greatly underrated as an actress and singer. My second favorite song was "I Fell in Love with Love" , the song she sang to her daughters as they were preparing to leave for the Ball. Whoopi Goldberg was fantastic and hilarious as the Queen....loved her little squeaks of distress when she didn't get her way. Paolo Montalban, as the Prince, has a wonderful voice and presence. Whitney Houston was in the movie for a maximum of 15 minutes and was the most memorable, to me. I loved the song "Impossible" and the carriage ride to the Ball scene. Of course my favorite scene and song was the ending as she sang the closing song. Of course, I believe she became Whitney Houston, at the end, especially when she rose above the castle and raised her arms to end the song--classic WH move. Many believe WH has lost it and that it is impossible to recapture the clarity and magnificence of her voice. "...impossible things are happening everyday...."
