Entertainment Weekly Review submitted by: Terrence source: Entertainment Weekly Date: August 8, 2003 FRIDAY AUGUST 15 8-9:50PM The Cheetah Girls (Disney Channel, TV-G) The Actress Formerly Known As Raven-Symone (right in pink) continues her slow-and-steady morph into the Jackee of tween stars by playing self-centered high school freshman Galleria Garibaldi, leader of the aforementioned multiculti girl group aiming for national stardom. Problem is, Galleria's got opportunism in her blood, and when--Glitter rip-off alert!--an oily producer surfaces, she's gotta choose between her own ambition and the force that is...cheetah power. This uneven mess is just an excuse for Disney to shill cross-promotional CDs, though there are a few hidden gems. Lynn Whitfield, bless her, makes a fierce impression as Galleria's controlling mama, and Sandra Caldwell's turn as former disco queen Drinka Champagne (!) is a frowzy delight. Stick around 'til the end, and you even get an unintentionally funny finale, in which Galleria's bichon frise is rescued, Baby Jessica-style, from a pit. I swear I didn't make that up.
