DESCRIPTION OF THE BODYGUARD DIRECTOR'S CUT... NEVER BEFORE SEEN SCENES!
Submitted by: Leigh, Vancouver, Canada.
Date: May 28/98.

I thought that most people knew or seen the director's unedited cut of "The BodyGuard". You know how you take it for granted that people seen new footage because the movie is like 6 years old now.

Anyhow, the original Bodyguard was almost 3 hrs long. There is a scene near the pool where the construction workers are busy rearranging her property at the request of Frank, you'll recall she was rehearsing "Run To You", before that scene Rachel is in the main house, with a black tank top and she slips the white blouse over her and starts singing the first verse of "Run To You" with the headphones on her as she walks out to the patio. She then sits down and the scene begins with the construction workers.

The next scene was completely left out as well. She is in the kitchen with her staff talking small talk and the plans for the day and her upcoming schedule and preparing I guess smoothies. This was definitely real and casual talk among the cast members. She expresses her distaste for what Frank is doing. Then it rolls into the footage we've seen for The Bodyguard. Before she says "He's through messing with my life." Nicky mentions her son and she presses the blender button. Then she goes on and rants and raves which is footage we don't see and then the footage we have seen declares "...want some peace around here...". Certain parts may not be exact Rachel, cause I'm relying on my memory here. I watched it on DVD at a friend's house.

Another scene is after the club scene when Frank takes her home and into the bedroom. In the footage we've seen, the scene cuts to him putting her down on the bed and she asks"..Don't you want to know why I act that way...". Before he puts her down, Rachel tries to seduce Frank into sleeping with her. She slowly titillates him by removing her stockings and the camera catches her every move and before she's about to take her top off, he stops her, it then switches to the above scene. You may remember this is one of the scenes that was shown for the trailer to the Bodyguard, When Arsenio had her own displaying her house, they showed this particular trailer and it showed this seduction scene. Do you remember?

Another scene is the memorable afterlovin' bed scene. Rachel questions Frank about why he's leaving. After extended dialogue Rachel declares of course "...but I can't *&%$ you." After this scene, Rachel gets out of bed with the sheets and declares "Who the hell do you think you are...*&%$ I'm bigger than this."

The scene after she performs "I Have Nothing", where her and Frank are in the kitchen and the staff is cleaning up from the night before, Once again Frank and Rachel get into it. After this scene, there is a scene where I think she was purchasing art or drapery material (I forget which one) but anyhow she's wearing cream pants and I think it was a striped blouse but I'm not sure, anyhow, she can barely decipher and make up her mind because she's still hung over from the previous night. As she walks by Frank out of the room, she gives him the evil eye. This was the beginning of many scenes where she publicly disses him.

Another scene is after Rachel's sister died. Ya know, I heard Whitney say in several interviews how hard it was for her to hit Kevin Costner, well it didn't look very difficult. He checks in on her in her bedroom and she's crying her eyes out. Amazing performance I think anyhow, Lord only knows why they cut this effective scene out, Rachel begins chastising Frank for thinking only of her and not her family in his quest to protect her. She continues going on about how she was the only family she had and now she's gone. Frank interjects by saying something to the effect, can't remember exact words, "...is it me your upset about or your so called life?" At this point, Rachel slaps him extremely hard and tells him he's fired and to "..get the hell out..". As he leaves, Rachel says "...you couldn't be there for me either.." She was making reference to Frank's not being at his mother's funeral. For this Rachel apologizes later in a few scenes later. After that scene, we see Frank drinking vodka and orange juice as he resorts to alcohol to cover Rachel's stinging words.

The final scene is after the awards show, where the scene of them saying goodbye rolls in. After the final scene with the prayer, the scene switches to the extended version of "I Will Always Love You", she's on stage and her people and audience are glossy eyed marveling over her amazing performance, dressed in a gold sequined gown she slowly dances to the music with her head down, lifts her head, wipes the tears away, and boldly declares "And I........". The camera is on her until the last few notes where the camera slowly lifts up to the ceilling and the screen is black. The credits roll and the last chorus of "I Will Always Love You" is played again and then "Queen Of the Night".

I know it's not that many new scenes but I was stunned when I saw this version. The director was right to cut these scenes cause the movie would have been too long, except for the scene where she slaps him.
