Full Version: What kind of remake?

If Whitney remakes a song on her new album, which she probably will, what kind of song do you think she will do. According to Leigh's "insider", which I don't believe, but I'll just play on that anyways, it says she is singing a classic from a classic artist in a day gone by. To me, I could see her singing something by Billie Holliday. I could also see her singing "Yesterday" from the Beatles, since it deals with problems, "seems they're only here to stay."

My problem with her singing "Yesterday" is that it was too recently done by Boyz II Men. What has been good so far about Whitney's remakes is that all of her remakes are known as Whitney songs. I like that. I don't want people to think of it as a Whitney cover. Something as huge as "Yesterday" will have no chance of becoming known as just a WHITNEY song. I think she needs to stay away from HUGE hits like that.

I also think Whitney should avoid any song that has been done in the last 20 years. Many people want her to remake 80's hits. I personally think that those songs are still too recent in people's minds. I think she should stick with what she has done in the past and remake great songs that she can make her own. If she remakes a more recent song, I hope it is a country song, so it at least isn't that well known in the pop market, and she can make it her own like she did "I Will Always Love You."

I think Celine adding "At Last" to her album was a mistake. "Nature Boy" is one thing, but "At Last" should not have been done.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-04-02 AT 08:29 PM (EST)]Well if she remakes a song like Yesterday, it doesn't need to be released as a single. For example Whitney remade I Was Made To Love Him by Stevie Wonder yet nobody except those who bought the album know about it. The song was not released, and if Yesterday isn't released then I don't see a problem, it will be simply an album cut not a single that everyone will hear like IWALY, IEW or GLOA but rather something like IWMTLH or IKHSW.

Personally I don't care for remakes, Whitney can do whatever she wants as long as there are some wicked vocals on this album. I want Bodyguard vocals and I know that she's capable now that she's resting and taking her time with the recording of the album.

Are you talking about Boyz II Men's "Its So Hard To Say Goodbye to Yesterday"? Cause if you are then that is a completely different song than the Beatles' "Yesterday". To my knowledge B2M never remade the Beatles' "Yesterday". And if they did, it wasn't a hit (or a single). So Whit could still remake that song, but I don't think she should.

Say what you say, but I still think her and Luther dueting on a remake of "Saturday Love" would be the jam!

Well, I wouldn't have a problem with something like "Saturday Love" since it obviously wasn't THAT huge of a hit since I have never heard of the song.

As for Boyz II Men, now I'm confused. I know on at least one verse they say "Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away, now I know they're only here to stay, I believe in yesterday." So, yes, it was a Beatles remake I guess.

It was a remake. From their Boyz II Men II album. It is the last song.

Its a very danceable, uptempo groove.
