Ok, about two years ago I came to the site for support in regards to my wedding song list. Was I playing too much Whitney, not enough and which songs. (Which Im glad I stuck to my guns and had a lot of Whitney played... included mom and son dance " I look to you" and Couples dance "Worth it"
Now my wife and I are expecting our first child this summer. Which we find out tomorrow/later today what the sex is.

My wifes words to me were, I let you pick the song list and go crazy with all the Whitney songs, but it has to stop here with the names.

However.... if its a Girl we both did agree on the name Savannah (for obvious reasons). Which this decision was made prior to Whitneys passing.

But for a Boys name is where the arguement comes in.....

A friend who knew the love I had for Whitney threw out the name Houston... which i was thinking wow...what an amazing choice. But my wife doesnt like it... and whats worse it my last name... "Brown" Houston Brown just feels a lil too strange for me. But what would be a compromise that I can still have a tribute to someone who meant so much to me?

This is where I need your help... or should I just give in to my wife and move on from the Whitney tribute?

Any suggestions...?

I'm all for Savannah!!!!! I had always hoped that one day I'd have a girl with the same name.

Or Julia! Love that name too.

As for the boy, Jeremiah is precious!

But,...if your wife isn't up for any of it, ask her if it's okay to name the NEXT baby.LOL.

for a boy you could use Russel ( her dad's 2nd name)

or Jackson (Savannah"s last name)

or Marron ( Rachel's last name)

Congrats! I can't help you there, I can't think of a male version of Whitney's name...

Believe it or not, I've known quite a few male Whitney's!

It could be his middle name. Like Kevin Whitney or something :giggle:

I believe Whitney was originally a male name(though I haven't confirmed this properly). Obviously nowadays there are much more female Whitney's, but it's still sort of unisex name. Though I mainly meant that a girl could be named as Whitney as a very direct tribute, but a boy Whitney isn't that far fetched. Maybe not the best idea though.

Yes, Whitney is a completely unisex name. Probably because it started as a surname. If I had a boy today I would absolutely name him Whitney as it is such a cool name and just sounds so distinguished. I'd probably be more likely to name a boy Whitney than a girl since it is not as uncomon to name a girl Whitney. I like names that are traditional, interesting, have a mark of distinction and are not going to be the names of every other kindergartner.

Baby naming is great fun. Lots to talk about and research and it make it interesting to meet new people with names you never thought of. Enjoy the experience! I read and read books when naming my son and thought I had the perfoct combination of tradition, strength, interest, rareity, etc., etc., etc. I just knew it would be special; then we showed up at kndergarten, and there was another kid in his exact class with the same name (different spelling). I never liked that kid who was mooching on my son's special name. Wish I had thaough to name my son Whitney. Too late now. (lol)

No Offense, But KIds are very cruel.
Naming a Boy Whitney, you are setting up that kid to be bullied throughout his school life...

Whitney is a beautiful name, but for a girl.
But thats Just me.

Actually, Whitney was originally a surname and then a boy's name. It's like the name Dana, or Sidney, completely unisex now.

Seriously. A dad naming his first born son after Whitney Houston?

I heard it all now.

But, you might think of some of the guys she has done duets with might work:

Just don't chose Enrique. Teddy, Pendergrass, Luther all good names.
