That was it? I'm sorry I know I'm a Whitney fan but even if it was anyone else that was a poor man's tribute, especially considering she was on that stage performing the year before.. I love Kelly and she did a nice job but seriously this is Whitney Houston we're talking about

Was my life not enough of a cautionary tale for you?

Kelly came out and sang Jesus Loves Me, they showed a few pics on the screen behind her and that was pretty much it. I thought they would do more.

Hmmm, well uhh. I think Kelly did a very nice job with Jesus Loves Me, buuuut, it was over so fast. She came on, sang it, they showed a few pics of whitney and it was over. The Grammy's did more. They showed more of a tribute in the commercial. I just thought that they would do more. Especially since her performance last year.

You can watch Kelly Price's performance here.

Yeah my first reaction was "that was it"? It was a great performance, but I was just hoping they would talk about her contribution to gospel music.

- Biggest selling gospel album of all time
- The only mainstream pop singer / global superstar who sings gospel
- First performance at a church, final performance singing Jesus Loves Me, final televised performance I Look To You, final recorded song His Eye Is On The Sparrow

Whitney has done more for gospel music than many gospel singers. How many global superstars other than Whitney actually sing gospel music during every concert? None actually. I mean this is a global superstar who has sung gospel music in every country she's ever been to, who insisted that people bear with her as she sings ILTL in Asia and actually preached about her love for the Lord in a Muslim country. Not to mention introducing gospel music to millions of fans (myself included) who would otherwise never listen to gospel music.

I was definitely disappointed... we could've at least gotten a medley, and for the opening maybe a little video montage of Whitney performing some gospel songs. I felt like this was an obligatory thing they felt like they should do, they threw a little effort into it and kept on going.

Exactly, THIS! I felt like they could have done so much more.

On a side note - Blazinice, how are things going? Grandfathers are truly special people so I have been thinking of you and wishing you well.

Thanks for thinking of me, I'm doing my best to keep it all together. He's not doing great but his strength and determination still continues to amaze me.

you summed it up so great, i think they should have at least read this post, that would do her justice :) people don't really recognize the fact that she was the ultimate crossover artist, there were no genres for Whitney, she sang what she wanted to sing, she sang what she felt, whether it was pop, rnb, gospel or anything else..that's why it's so hard to label her, saying "Whitney Houston is a pop singer" is the understatement of the century..i was really expecting they'd do her justice after everything she'd done for gospel music..

Wait... I just saw it. It was just Kelly? I thought Jennifer Holiday, Faith Evans and someone else was supposed to be singing together for her or something. That was it? Could that have at least sung JLM like Whitney's version? If you missed Kelly's speech and didn't see the pics on the background I would have never guessed that was a Whitney tribute... I guess BET... I guess...
