'The Wonderful Family of Divas'. 2011 documentary staring Whitney Houston


THE WONDERFUL FAMILY OF DIVAS is a look into one of America’s most musically influential families: the Drinkard family, whose tradition of gospel produced such luminaries as Dionne Warwick, Cissy Houston and Whitney Houston.

Featuring performances, never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews, the documentary traces the history of song in this talent-infused family and celebrates the spirit, the strength of family, and the power of gospel music to heal, to transcend and to entertain. Starring: Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, Cissy Houston and the Sweet Inspirations, The Drinkard Singers, Roberta Flak, Gary Houston and The Drinkard Singers II.

Responsible for spawning the legends that are Whitney Houston and Dionne Warwick, to name just two, the Drinkard‘s are without a doubt one of the most influential family of artists the world of music has been blessed with to date.
Now, in celebration of their wide reaching influence on Pop culture, it has been confirmed that a documentary named ‘The Wonderful Family Of Divas‘ ,written and directed by acclaimed director Gary Keys, will feature commentary from ‘The Bodyguard‘ singer herself, alongside other members of her family.

Featuring never before seen footage and exclusive interviews with and from Whitney, Cissy Houston, Dionne Warwick, Gerard Drinkard and Roberta Flak,the documentary will trace the family’s history from their humble beginnings in Savannah, Georgia in 1938 to the success and notoriety have enjoyed since then.
Shot between the period of 2010-2011, a release date for the project is yet to be confirmed.

Not sure when this was taped but it looks like she took off a lot of weight. Her face is so slim. I love my Whitney!

I don't think Whitney is related to Roberta Flack. At least I have never heard that, though Whitney definitely admires Roberta Flack. I did read that she is related to Loontyne Price, which makes this family even more amazing. The voice and musicality is definitely in the genes. Then the added nurturing and training produced the legend that is Whitney Houston.

Whitney grew up around singers like Aretha and Roberta Flack. I hope we'll get some unseen archive footage as well.

I pray we get some unseen footage! Since this is official, I hope they really open up those vaults and load us up with some never-before seen stuff, Whitney has to know her fans are clamoring for it.

I'm so excited for this. I am such a fan of the family as a whole. The talent doesn't start & end with Whitney, but goes WAY back. Such a family of talent and history.
