Babyface was actually in concert the day of Whitney's passing. Someone posted his "Exhale" tribute of her earlier in this thread or another thread:
Here it is:
I assume he said some words about Whitney before the performance because afterwards he starts talking about him falling in love, etc...

"I'm almost incapable of talking about this still. I think we all are. It's very heavy emotionally especially just looking at that little bit of us together. But it was great. I don't think people could ever understand our relationship. There was always this supposed rivalry in the beginning and then we did the duet and we became friend. I saw her towards her end. I loved her. We all loved her, we all were inspired by her, and we all loved her. May she rest in peace and her legend's gonna go on forever. [The homegoing] was gorgeous. Such a class act. Just the way she went out and the way her family dealt with it. I was very moved and it was beautiful."

That look when she finishes her comments on the homegoing shows real hurt. And then what's happening to Nick. Must be a tough time for her....

WOW I don't know what to say

Love is what we make it
We can make it something lovely
So don't desert me
Instead, learn to trust me
And love is what we make it
So let's make it, love

Wow, I don't know when I've seen Mariah be this geniune or heartfelt about any other artist EVER in any way. I am definitely viewing her differently now. You can really see that Whitney meant a lot to her.

Was my life not enough of a cautionary tale for you?

Wow.
And I love that era. Vocally, Whitney was a beast. Looks-wise, drop dead gorgeous especially with that brown dress. Though I must admit I always thought that picture of them together at 1:21 made them look like lesbian lovers lol.
