I've been watching a lot of OWN because I LOVE the programming that Oprah & Co. put out. It's almost refreshing for the most part, although some of the Dr. Phil/Dr. Oz/Suze Orman stuff can be overkill. However, I'm loving what she did with Shania Twain and her series, the duchess Sarah, The Judds, Ryan & Tatum O'Neal, and most recently Celine Dion. It got me thinking: would this be a good idea to do with Whitney? I know Being Bobby Brown left a bad taste in everyone's (including me) mouth, but I feel like a docuseries may be much different. I love it because it's not really shot like a cheap, trashy reality show and there's always a message. I think it could be great career/image repair. Something like "Finding The Voice- Whitney Houston." The series could follow her working with vocal coaches (if indeed what Clive said about her is being enforced), her journey as a mother, preparing to go back in the public eye, etc.

Maybe if we discuss it and flesh it out, we could (if we think it's a good idea) could collaborate with other Whitney sites, get some nice threads going, then get the idea & thread links to Pat Houston and to someone on Oprah's team? Maybe create a Facebook page in support of it if it turns out that this would be a good idea?

Here are the trailers for examples of the some of the series I mentioned:

I forgot to mention that I think OWN is looking to add more series for the next programming season.

Larry,

I've seen a bit of Sarah Ferguson's series, and an episode of Shania's. If Ms. Houston were to consider opening up and sharing any part of her life - providing more insight into her world versus the one everyone believes they already know - then this wouldn't prove a bad vehicle into that foray.

However, I think it would take a lot to convince Whitters on such a proffer. BBB was just that, Mr. Brown. We've always known how closely guarded and low-key Whit prefers to keep her private life. Whenever someone brings up BBB, I simply ask them the title of that show again.

I'm on the fence, Lee. At this point in her life and career, I think she seems to be a lot more open than she ever has before, but also, I know how she shuns Krissy's requests to get on camera for Twitter or to even get a Twitter account. I think if done tastefully and maybe with a redemptive/triumphant framework in mind, it wouldn't be a bad idea for her to consider at least.

Oh, I don't disagree. But as it's less a question of whether she should or shouldn't and more of will she or won't she, I think we're left pondering who and/or what could proffer an effectively persuasive case. One which motivates Ms. Houston to say "yes".

As for B Kris, she needs to find her personal filter in this advanced world of social media. An adjustment, to be sure. Just, please, slow your roll. You'll find your way.

I think this would be an awesome idea and a great way to establish herself as a clean sober artist. People still dog Whitney but everyone loves a great comeback...the problem with her last comeback (imo) was that she came back saying she was clean, sober and ready, etc but then never addressed obvious vocal issues, etc. I feel like Whitney does want to stay in the public eye, or else why would she do movies and soundtracks. I mean it isnt like she needs the money. I think she just doesnt trust the media and rightfully so...but if she were to do something liek this and people saw her really trying they probably wouldnt be a s critical of her.

First of all I have to say that I am furious that I cant get OWN in Sweden! :ermm:

If she ever would do something like that, it certainly HAVE to be on OWN! I love the thought, as long as they dont involve "Dr" Phil to speak the truth to her...or wait...do that so I can see him getting slapped silly! :yahoo:

WOW! The Shania and Celine look powerful! While I was watching, I was thinking if Whitney should have one, and I actually think it would be a great idea!

I just now finished watching the 1 1/2 hour special on Celine, and now it's beginning to rerun again. Knowing how REAL Celine is (and even without looking at the preview--which I didn't), I knew I was in for a great show, and boy, it certainly was one. Absoulutely beautiful, IMHO. Truly enjoyed every bit of it.

I hope that Whitney would consider doing something like this. I'm positive it would put her in a much better light this time.

now don't shoot me here *hides behind rock* but i don't really see whitney doing a reality tv series on herself, given how private she is, and how she's slowed down (compared to 80s and 90s whitney.

what i would imagine is plausible (and maybe better) would be a whitney and Bobbi (not whitney and bobby) doco with one being the established star working on a project (say the upcoming films and inevitable soundtracks) and the other being a newbie trying to get into the game (Bobbi launching a solo career.) their lives are so intertwined that i can't see a whitney series being done without some bobbi focus.

hell, even as a one off project it would be amazing! and the brilliant thing is that it doesn't really matter if whitney is boring IRL (which i doubt, she has a sense of humor, that one), to have a look into the life of one of the few living legends we have would be amazing. that and it's a way to get whatever she wants to say across without having to do an interview.

I think I'm going to try to get the idea to Pat. Maybe the idea of doing it is enough in her hands and maybe if they reach out to OWN's producers and writers, they can get a show going.

So Jace and I were texting back and forth last night about this idea, and I think it's not a bad idea to run to Whitney's camp. Even if it's just a 2 hr special like Celine did. Like Whitney said, she trusts Oprah. She wouldn't have to talk about the drugs or demons; that's over. But what I think I'd like to see is her working with vocal coaches, going to doctors, seeing her workout, working on her instrument, how she's dealing with Krissi, etc. I think it could be tastefully done. And I'm certainly gonna take the time to write a nice letter to Pat and get it to her and maybe even engage Oprah and her producers on Twitter to get the idea in their heads.

Hey I got a mention!! LOL! But I think it's an awesome idea to get the ball rolling on a project like this, maybe even have it coincide with the release of Sparkle?

I wonder if we should put this in my Twitter thread? Or just make this a separate idea altogether?
