Me too, me too. Unfortunately I missed that era then, I was too little to be the hardcore fan I'm now. But I try to fill in the gaps so I'm always excited when I find a rare Whitney video from '80s.

I missed it too, I was born in 88 sooo i missed a lot and I have spent countless hours on Youtube watching footage, news, concerts, awards, award shows, candid stuff. I love all of it. A part of me is annoyed that I wasn't born 25 years earlier, and yet a part of me is happy because (God willing) I'll live longer and seeing as how I'm a die hard/borderline obsessed fan now and always will be, I'll be able to spread the magic, keep it alive, trying to make the later generations realize the talent, or blessing of Whitney Houston.

I never thought about it from that approach.....but you're right. The main thing is that we still have the opportunity to see her live and enjoy posterior years of her carrier from '90s and so on. I was born in 1984, my first Whitney memory is from the Bodyguard era.

WYB Oscars 1999


I've never really understood this performance. During the Oprah performance they had a solid friendship connection. They hugged at the end. But this Oscar performance it was as if they had an argument before going on stage and Whitney was playing with Mariah. Mariah just stood there like a clown. At at the end.. don't know if you've ever noticed this, they didn't hug like they did on Oprah, Whitney was the only one to say "thank you" and Mariah looked like she was in a rush to exit the stage - Mariah also gave the fakest smile ever This video is the longest footage I've seen. And it's longer at the end. I'm guessing this performance was after the Oprah performance.

The Oscars is a bit more of a formal occasion than Oprah - sure Oprah is high profile, but at the Oscars all your peers from the world of entertainment are watching you. It's a big honour to perform at the Oscars and I think it probably overawed Mariah a little bit, hence Whitney being the only one to say thank you. They both seemed to enjoy it though - look how they were beaming at the end, so Im not sure whether I would say they had an argument or anything.

I didn't think Mariah was bad at all at that Oscars night, but it seemed The Voice was with Whitney in full force that night. That belt before when the curtains opened and the choir came out totally drowned out Mariah and was "out of this era" as we might say
