A&E, Sony play Bonnie and Clyde

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) is developing a miniseries about notorious 1930s bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde for A&E Networks and an ABC telemovie starring Whitney Houston.

Bonnie and Clyde: Dead and Alive (4x60') promises to shed fresh light on the lives of the gangsters by focusing on reports published at the time of their crime spree that Clyde Barrow had 'second sight', allowing him to see events before they unfolded and allowing him to escape capture time after time.

Meanwhile, fame-hungry Bonnie Parker pushes her partner to commit increasingly daring raids.

"Arthur Penn's (1967) film is brilliant and we stand in awe of it," Helen Verno, SPT's executive VP for movies and miniseries, told C21.

"Stylistically this will be different and it will be new, and it will be interesting for people to see this and this will add to the body of knowledge about these folk."

SPT has begun casting for the series, which will air in 2012, though it has not yet been decided on which network A&E will broadcast the series.

Futhermore, SPT has signed up to produce a TV movie starring singer and actress Whitney Houston for US network ABC, though details of the script remain under wraps as the project is still in its infancy.

Bonnie and Clyde is the latest miniseries on SPT's slate. It is currently producing Hatfields and McCoys, exec-produced by Darrel Fetty, Leslie Grief and Herb Manas, about a legendary feud that lasted for generations between the rival families.

Kevin Coster and Tom Berringer will star in the six-hour series, which is being produced for History.

Bag of Bones, SPT's four-hour adaptation of Stephen King's thriller starring Pierce Brosnan and Melissa George, is due to air next month on A&E. The series, about a man haunted by his wife's ghost, is exec-produced by Stewart Mackinnon, Mark Sennett, Craig Sheftell, and co-executive produced by David Davoli and Brian Gary.

Meanwhile, Ellen Berstyn, Geena Davis and Lauren Ambrose, have signed up to star in Coma, another four-hour series for A&E, exec-produced by Ridley Scott and David Zucker.

The story follows what happens when apparently healthy young patients go into a coma after routine surgery and a doctor discovers their organs have been harvested and sold on the black market.

I know that she, in the throws with BBBBBB, talked about doing a Bonnie & Clyde type movie with him, but I didn't think anything seriously of it. If this is something that's gonna happen, that's 2 movies (Sparkle & GTH) and one TV movie with her. I got excited when I saw TV SERIES. I was like, "OMG Whitney WEEKLY?!!"

I'm gonna turn this into it's own thread!

Larry I don't think its B&C that they're saying she is going to do. It seems like a totally seperate TV Movie that they are signing on to produce for her.

It reads that way to me, but I'll change the title as to not mislead anyone.

ABC/Disney company loves Whitney. So I can see her starring in a movie for ABC. They probably would give Whitney her own talk show if she wanted. Move over Live with Kelly. lol

if I'm not mistaken doesn't she owe ABC another movie anyways? or am I confusing ABC with HBO? I know she owed them both at one time one more movie/special per her contracts with them. Might be more in store of Whitney then we even can imagine lol

That's a good question. If she had a contract with anyone I would asssume ABC. Maybe she feels indebted to ABC. If you think about it, over the last 10 or so yers, we've only seen Whitney appear on ABC rather than let's say FOX, CBS or NBC. She's done GMA twice, Oprah, Dancing with the stars, American Music Awards. I could be missing something else...

Is this reliable??

I would love to see her in a TV movie, a full fledged musical, with lots of singing by Whitney. But a weekly series would be TOO MUCH, only coz that wouldn't suit a legend like her - too much exposure for somebody as big as her. So I hope if it's true it's a movie, a family oriented, fun filled movie...

I'm not gonna start any dreaming just now though :)

hmm... don't know if i love the sound of this... when i think of made for cable tv movies, i think of those terrible Lifetime dramas ...please no Fantasia Barrino Story mess for Whitney...

if it's on ABC, then maybe its another fairytale reimagining... o/t, i was watching their new fairytale show Once Upon A Time the other day and they did a Cinderella montage that was almost identical to Whitney's version, sassy Black fairy Godmother and all..

ME TOO!! I totally thought it was heavily inspired by the movie, and the fairygodmother was a homage to Nippy!

Just to clear up any confusion in this thread, if the article is accurate, it would be a TV movie for the ABC network. It wouldn't be a TV series. It would be a one-time project that's more like "Cinderella," which was also done for ABC. But before you imagine another big lavish musical, there's no indication whether the movie would be a musical or something else. It could be anything at this point. But we can dream!

It's not unusual for ABC to produce family-style Disney TV movies, and since Whitney is really into making positive films, it could be something like that.
If tomorrow is judgment day ...
And the Lord asks me what I did with my life,
I will say I spent it with you.
