I personally try not to think about it because it would drive me crazy because there is so much mystery around it. I have my hopes, but I am keeping them contained.

It was not my intention to imply that Whitney died in a so-called “crack binge.” I would never use something so vulgar in regard to Whitney. Clearly, I’m a Whitney fan or I wouldn’t have joined the community seven years ago.
In terms of drinking, Whitney herself admitted in the Diane Sawyer interview when asked: “The public wants to know: Is it cocaine? Marijuana? Pills? Alcohol?” Whitney replied: “At times.” Diane pressed, “All?” Whitney replied: “It has been.”
The first thing any addiction counselor will tell you if you want to get clean and sober is that you have to get rid of the people, places and things that contribute to or tolerate your self-destructive behavior.
I’m speaking in the general sense, that someone, anyone, who has had an addiction to any controlled substance will not have a successful recovery if they’re in bars six months or even a year after treatment. That’s virtually impossible no matter who you are.
I live in New York City. Drug dealers hang out inside and outside of night clubs trolling around for “clients.”
The first thing alcohol does is lower your inhibitions which can lead to repeating the same destructive behaviors one is trying to break.
We don’t know the cause of death. And whatever the cause may be, sadly it will not bring her back. My intention was to open up a conversation about addiction—a topic that is unspeakable to so many, that is shrouded in denial—especially in the black community—especially among people who abuse prescription medications.
95% of the things all of us written over the years are based on opinion and conjecture.
Denial is addiction's best friend. That may be a metaphor but it’s also a fact.
Peace.

It's like; if she hadn't jumped into the bathtub, she would probably still be alive. That will be kinda hard to handle..

The simple fact is, if Whitney was really REALLY doing handstands by the pool or getting drunk and yelling in the lobby, why don't we have any videos of it? Like really, this is the era of smartphones. Any video can be on youtube/facebook like THAT. Hell even crappy flip phones have got cameras and some basic internet access now. You're telling me these people told tmz about her being drunk as hell in the lobby but there isn't a SINGLE video out there in THIS era? Yeah, like I believe that.

SAY THAT!!!! They have video of her getting down watching Madonna at the Superbowl. Hell, they have pics of her in a chair by the pool with a colored drink at her side. If someone could take that picture they could have just as easily taken her being "crazy" at the pool. And furthermore, how many times are you seen people run and do a cartwheel or something to jump into a pool. I see people do that all the time. But again... According to the world media when we do it, it's normal. When Whitney does it... it's drugs. Someone posted a video on Facebook of Whitney laughing and having a good time in various clips over her career. They said damn, I wish this is the side of Whitney the world got to see. She looks like she's a trip. I responded. She did show the world that side, but everytime she did people chalked up the crazy and fun to her being high all the time.

FI Throwback...

That's true too! Last year my friends and I did backflips and BLEEP! into the pool all summer long and we weren't drunk/high! But of course it's Whitney...and like you say people automatically just wanna call her crazy.

Yea, throw all science out the window. You go listen to some "addiction counsellor" (you know, the ones with the near 0% success rate [probably because they are not interested in the scientific bases for addiction]) and act as if all addictions have the same physiological, psychological, and genetic causes. It helps to ignore science when you have pre-conceived notions, now doesn't it.
The anecdotal observation that NY drug dealers hag outside clubs is supposed to support your conclusion that all addicts cannot drink or go to a bar. Lord ha mercy what do they teach in school these days. I want my tax money back!
It's clear from your post that the tabloid TV and magazines are the sum total of your understanding of the science behind addiction, so I'm out, as they say.
Peace to you.

You show me the 48 year old woman, who is sloppy drunk or high, who can do a cartwheel or flip into a pool without breaking her neck. THAT I will pay to see!

I knew this topic would go downhill fast I just hoped that it wouldn't. Coming up with unfounded theories will just cause strain and strife and tragically none of this banter will bring her back so lets just let it go.
When the reports come back we will deal with the reality of what happened that day until then all this pointless.
Nobody here was with Whitney that day, and nobody at all was with her in those final moments so let it go

Was my life not enough of a cautionary tale for you?

Regardless of what the results show, even if it turns out that there was alcohol in her system, it still doesn't make her an alcoholic. I'm tired of people like Dr. Drew and various newspapers acting like she was an alcoholic when SHE SAID she was not.
Peace out.
And the Lord asks me what I did with my life,
I will say I spent it with you.

Yes, Lisa, but there are those who would rather disregard the more receint Oprah interview and, instead, quote the 10 year old Diane Sawyer interview (smh). I must admit, I find this selective use of quotes to be interesting, especially since she told Diane that she used various things "at times," which is by no means an admission to an addiction to everything. I think the misconceptions, distortions and lies that hounded her really took a toll on the quality of Whitney's life. So, I really wish people would just try to be objective for a minute -- at least until the coroner's report comes out -- and hold off on the rank speculation. Even if the media and casual music lovers won't cut the speculation, her fans should.
