Whitney Houston Versions

Whitney Houston has covered sooooo many songs that other artists have sung originally. And every time she has done this, she has sung them in my opinion better if not close to better than the people originally singing them. Post all the video or audio that you have of Whitney Houston covering/singing some one else's song. Heres to start:

Whitney Houston Random thread 14

Time for a new random thread I think!

Sometimes when you are surfing the net you find Whitney being mentioned in stories that perhaps do not need a thread of itīs own, but still have to be shared with everyone else here, this can be the thread for that.

'Getting To Happy' Novel Released Today

Don't forget that Getting To Happy, the sequel to Waiting To Exhale is released TODAY wherever books are sold!

Synopsis
An exuberant return to the four unforgettable heroines of Waiting to Exhale--the novel that changed African American fiction forever.

Terry McMillan's Waiting to Exhale was more than just a bestselling novel-its publication was a watershed moment in literary history. McMillan's sassy and vibrant story about four African American women struggling to find love and their place in the world touched a cultural nerve, inspired a blockbuster film, and generated a devoted audience.

Now, McMillan revisits Savannah, Gloria, Bernadine, and Robin fifteen years later. Each is at her own midlife crossroads: Savannah has awakened to the fact that she's made too many concessions in her marriage, and decides to face life single again-at fifty-one. Bernadine has watched her megadivorce settlement dwindle, been swindled by her husband number two, and conned herself into thinking that a few pills will help distract her from her pain. Robin has an all-American case of shopaholism, while the big dream of her life-to wear a wedding dress- has gone unrealized. And for years, Gloria has taken happiness and security for granted. But being at the wrong place at the wrong time can change everything. All four are learning to heal past hurts and to reclaim their joy and their dreams; but they return to us full of spirit, sass, and faith in one another. They've exhaled: now they are learning to breathe.

OT: Random Entertainment Tidbits (Part Seven)

We've seen an increasing amount of threads dedicated to Beyonce, Xtina, and everybody else. To curtail that (and to spinoff from the Random Stories of Whitney thread) I've devised this thread to see how it will work.

Oops! Did Britney do it again? Post it in here.
Beyonce now a single lady? Put cha hands up in here.
Jennifer Hudson still in the spotlight? Shine it in here.
Christina Aguilera need saving from herself? Tell us in here.
Mimi seeking re-emancipation? Let the butterflies fly free in here.
Kayne and Jesus? Hallelujah--right here.
A new song leaked? Let the leak fill up this thread.

Let's see how this works out. With the ever increasing omnipresence of Beyonce and the overwhelming amount of threads created in lieu of her (and other celebs), I wanted to see if an ultra random thread would work.

Talk amongst yourselves.

Electro-Pop and other musical trends

One of the most important things to have hit singles is to make sure the songs given to the record label executive are agreed upon and feel that they are hits. Up through 1999, Clive Davis has done a good job with Whitney, making sure her singles reflect what's played on radio. The first two albums fit nicely with the synthpop/power ballads that dominated the charts then, and Whitney's vocals over the otherwise mainstream/predictable sounds really stood out from the competition and thus made those albums/singles massive hits. By the I'm Your Baby Tonight album, the mainstream sound had shifted to New Jack Swing, though ballads were still in, although some of the songs were just weak. For The Bodyguard album, I'm Every Woman fit nicely with the house/Eurodance sounds of the era and R&B/Pop ballads were still important; that pretty much played through The Preacher's Wife. By the My Love Is Your Love album, a genre called Nu Soul had emerged (think Erykah Badu) and the hits on that album fit right in. But the problem by the Greatest Hits and especially Just Whitney is that nu soul had merged with hip hop/rap meaning that pop-sounding ballads were now cliche (Faith Hill's Threy'll You Be and Kelly Clarkson's A Moment Like This were the last real ballad hits), so in addition to bad promotion, the songs just simply fit in to what was current, and of course I Look To You even more so, making Whitney an "Easy Listening" artist to the current Top 40 audience.

But during 2008, with the success of Lady Gaga and Beyonce's Sasha Fierce album, this Electro-dance pop music became mainstream and is currently the most popular genre on Top 40 radio. It's good for Krissy to start her career, but it seems like Nippy feels that the tempos are too fast and having some autotune would be no good for her. Ballads are practically dead as well, limited to some A/C and Urban A/C stations.

But how do various musical trends and what's current affect your view on what Whitney is releasing?
